I have a Penn 4000 silverado. How does one get the reel to reel backwards? There is no lever to flip .?
I have looked everywhere on the reel to locate a lever to flip so the reel will reel forwards and backwards. Maybe I have a defect in my reel?

That ain't gonna happen.
The spool recover's line in one direction only.
If you mean "how do I retrieve line", well then, close the bail (that's the D shaped loop of wire in front of the spoll) and start cranking.
