Do you prefer a baitcaster or spinning reel for channel catfish?
Which do you prefer, a baitcaster or a spinning reel for channel cats?
I prefer my spinning setups for the Cats. I mainly like spinning setups because I tend to use Chicken Livers when Catfishing and as you probably know, it can be a hassle at times to keep this stuff on your hook. When using the spincast theres absolutely no resitance when your line is unwinding off of the spool which gives me longer casts without losing half of my bait on the other side of the lake. With the baitcasters I find myself trying to be very gentle when casting which screws me up more times than not. Either I'll get poor distance or wind up where I wasn't wanting to be. On the other hand if I'm throwing cut bait or something a little thicker out I always use a baitcast setup. I guess it's more of a preference type of thing for me although baitcasters are a lot more comfortable when fighting a fish in my opinion and they also give me a little more control over the fish.
