What's a good trolling rod under $80?
So I've got like 75 bucks to spend on a trolling rod (buying the reel later), because I want to get some serious fishing done this summer and have never had terrific gear for it. I want this summer to be different, and plan to fish off the coast in SC (maybe off a bridge or two also). What rod would you recommend? I was hoping for a fairly compact one with less than 7 guides, and a roller on the end. Love the rollers, and the heavy duty look that most of them have when they're short. Help? Any suggestions for trolling are also appreciated, because I'm still a beginner. Much thanks.
Also love Ugly Sticks- preferably I'd like one of those... Been eyeballing the TW 66 3/0 and TW 66 4/0. Tell me what you think, thanks

The rod you choose is going to be highly dependend on the species you plan on targeting since different fish are going to weigh more than others thus requiring a heavier action rod. If you are on a limited budget, get the cheapest rod you can find. Until you get into the higher end of the product lines that you are looking at, the quality difference isn't really that substantial. Ugly sticks are versatile, durable rods. I personally prefer Shimano and I think they are worth a look. They have great customer service, too. I just f'd up one of my reels that I bought from them and they sent me the replacement part no questions asked. Bottom line, though, choose your species, then choose your poison. You will find that fishing with equipment that is relevant to the species you are targeting will make you much more effective. Good luck.
