Lever Drag

Motorcycle's clutch lever royally effed. HELP!?

I drive an 82 Yamaha Virago XV750.
I don't know what I did, but it is bad. Today I went to fire it up. While parked with the engine off I tried to shift down into first and then Neutral to start it up. It wouldn't drop into first no matter how many times or how hard I kicked the shift lever. Nor could I drop it into neutral from second. It just wouldn't go. Then I hopped off the bike, squeezed the clutch lever as hard as I could and jammed down on the pedal with my full weight. Now the clutch lever will not return to center and I cannot shift it at all. It's like dragging through sand. What the heck did I do? How do I fix this? What caused the original problem? Possible influences on cause - New clutch cable, knocked the bike over last week and it bent the shift lever. I'm a handy guy and have fixed most problems with this bike, But now I fear I must brave the ultimate test of the weekend wrencher and pull the whole engine apart to get at my crank case. Suggestions?

I don't speak Japanese, but it definately sounds like you need to buy a service manual & READ it FIRST before you go taking things apart you may not get back together again. A call to the local PRO may not be a bad idea either

You definately have some serious issues, whether they be clutch problems, or in the tranny itself.
