How do I catch striper?

I would be fishing on a dock. What sort of bait should i use? Should the lure be floating? When i cast out, do i keep reeling it in or do i leave it alone? If i keep reeling it in, do i go slow, medium or fast? Im 16 and ive ate striper once and its SO good , very meaty and tasteful. I want to catch one. How would i do this? Please answer my questions and more tips leads to getting the Best answer. Thanks

Strippers are schooling fish and more prone to open water however they will cruise rocky banks in search of shad or like bait fish. Your best bet fishing from a stationary place would be to use some really big shiner minnows under a float with no weight to impair the bait action. Use a big rod & reel combo with a 20 pound test line because the odds are good if you do happen to hook into one, they are going to do all they can to break off.

One important thing when cleaning your catch, there is a redish strip of meat on the filet side you have got to cut out, otherwise you're going to hate the taste. Try putting the filet's in a baking dish with a stick of butter, rub in a small amount of garlic salt on the filet's and broil for 10 minutes at 375. Sure is some good eating with a good red wine.
